He joined the Army and served with the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in Continental Europe, the United Kingdom and Central Mediterranean during World War II. He was a Private in rank and was a Driver/Mechanic. He was a Life Member of the Bedford Branch 95. Hubert passed away in 2014. Submitted by Family. SMART, James A. WWI James was born in London, England in 1882. He enlisted in the Army on November 12, 1914 and was a Sgt. in the Special Guard, Canadian Military Police Corps and was discharged on May 25, 1919. He served with the 25th Bat Canadian Infantry in France, England and Canada during World War I. James passed away in 1948. Submitted by Family. SMITH, A. Gordon WWII Gordon was born on May 23, 1918 in Malagash, NS. He joined the Canadian Air Force in July 1940 and flew overseas in 1943, staying until 1946. He retired in Truro and later moved to his cottage in Bass River. Gordon was a member and avid supporter of The Legion, where he continued to work at Seniors’ Dinners until his death in 2003.
