He was a Home Child that England sent to Canada. He served with the 68th Regiment for seven years, and the 14th Kings County Hussars (KCHUS) for four years. He also served with the 6th Mounted Rifles. Charles also had at least thirteen grandsons and one granddaughter who enlisted in the Armed Forces during wartime. He passed away on May 7, 1952, and is buried in Maplewood Cemetery in Windsor, Hants County, NS. He served with the 6th Mounted Rifles during World War I. George passed away on April 14, 1951. He was a brother to Charles Henry Smith.
