He served with the 25th Battalion, Canadian Expedionary Forces in England and France. He was gassed at the Battle of Mons. Medals he received were: the British War Medal, Mons Star and the Victory Medal. He lived in Upper Port La Tour, N.S. He enlisted in the Army and served with the RCE and RCHA in Petawawa, the United Kingdom, and Germany during World War II and in Germany, Gagetown, NB; Shiloh, MB and Valcartier, QC during Peacetime. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, War Medal 1939-45 and the NATO Medal. His ranks for different years are Bdr, Cpl and Spr. Mondy passed away in 1997 and was a member of Great Village Legion Branch 72 for more than ten years. He received the Memorial Cross after his death. It was presented on behalf of Her Majesty’s Canadian Government in memory of one who died as a result of their service to Canada. Submitted by Family. SYMES, Cecil WWII & SPECIAL DUTY AREA Cecil was born in Barrons Field, Nova Scotia in 1920. He served in the Army and in the Air Force and served in Belgium, Holland, France, and Aldershot, England with the 8th CDN Bercade and 3rd Division. He was awarded the 39-45 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the War Medal 1939-1945. Cecil lives at East Cumberland Lodge in Pugwash, NS.
