Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 229 WILLIAMS, Frank WWI & WWII Frank was born in England, and came to Canada in 1923. He joined the Canadian Army (Permanent Force) in 1927. He was Honourably discharged in March 1930 with the rank of Gunner. He re-enlisted in the Canadian Army in November 1930, and served in Canada, Newfoundland, and the Central Mediterranean area. He was Honourably discharged with rank of Bombardier in 1948, completing twenty-one years of service. He was a member of Somme Branch #031 of The Royal Canadian Legion. Submitted by Somme Branch #031, The Royal Canadian Legion WILLIAMS, James WWI James was born in England, and entered the Royal Navy as a boy seaman in 1896. He served on various ships, most notably, H.M.S. Cornwall, taking part in the Falkland Island Battle and the landing at Suvla Bay, Dardanelles. He came to Canada on H.M.S. Aurora in 1920 and enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy, where he served until 1931. Upon completing his naval career, he took on the position of Storehouseman at the naval magazines, now Forces Ammunition Depot. He enlisted in the Army and served in Canada, the United Kingdom, Belgium, France and England with the No. 6 District Dept during World War II. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and the Defence Medal. He is living at the Veteran’s wing in the High Crest Nursing Home in Springhill, NS. He is a member of the Legion Branch 17 in Springhill.
