There was a dentist named Charles Everette Cameron who served in the Canadian Army Dental Corps during the Great War. It is not clear if he is the same Dr C Cameron noted in a 1920s newspaper clipping of Mahone Bay Great War veterans. In January, 2015, a 1927 list of local Great War veterans was discovered at Branch 49 of the Royal Canadian Legion – Dr C E (C “B” ?) Cameron’s name was included on that list. Captain Charles Everett Cameron was born in Gorrie, Ontario, on 6 August, 1890, and enlisted in Calgary on 25 August 1916. Submitted by Zone 13, The Royal Canadian Legion CAMERON, Donald William WWI Donald was born in Mahone Bay on 3 December 1891. He enlisted on 3 January, 1916, joining the 128th Bn in Moose Jaw , Sask. Upon enlisting he declared that he was a grocery clerk and that his father was his next of kin. Donald served in the 46th Battalion (nick-named the Suicide Battalion) and was gassed during the fighting in the Ypres Salient. The 1946 Trinity United Church (Mahone Bay) honour roll of Great War veterans includes the name of Donald Cameron Submitted by Zone 13, The Royal Canadian Legion CAMERON, Ewen M. WWI Ewen was born in Pugwash on 19 January, 1890, and his family moved to Mahone Bay when Ewen was a boy. Ewen was an electrician by trade and was amongst the first Canadian to enlist in the CEF. He enlisted in the 11th Bn in Valcartier on 27 September 1914. He served at the front with the 13th Bn and was gassed during the 2nd Battle of Ypres in April 1915. Ewen was wounded on two more occasions and was invalided home to Canada. He was discharged in Halifax in November 1918. Submitted by Zone 13, The Royal Canadian Legion
