Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 41 CAMERON, Roderick Joseph WWII Roderick, son of Daniel J. and Catherine (Gillis) Cameron of Castle Bay, joined the Army in Halifax on July 14, 1942. He served in Canada, England and Holland during World War II. He was taken on strength of 5th Coy Atlantic Coast Signals in Sydney; also stationed in Windsor, Halifax, Aldershot. He embarked for overseas on October 13, 1944 and landed in England on October 20, 1944. He was sent to Holland on November 23, 1944 and posted to the North Nova Scotia Highlanders on January 18, 1945. He was wounded at 1530 hours and died at 1800 hours on March 5, 1945. There was vicious close quarter fighting in the Hochwald Forest; roads were few with lots of soft mud that bogged the tanks and gave the German 88’s a field day. Submitted by Gardona Branch #124, The Royal Canadian Legion CAMPBELL, Donald Neil Wetmore WWII Donald was born in Grand Narrows, Nova Scotia in 1923. He enlisted in the Army with the Provost Corps and served in Canada during World War II. He married Eulalia Campbell and had six children. He lived in Grand Narrows, Cape Breton, NS. Donald served as president of Branch 124 Grandona Legion and was a life member. Donald worked for the Nova Scotia Department of Transportation for 35 years as captain and supervisor of Ferry Services. He will be remembered for his years of service and volunteer work with the community. Donald passed away in 2001. Submitted by Gardona Branch #124, The Royal Canadian Legion CAMPBELL, Hugh Pascal WWII Lance Corporal Hugh Campbell was born in Sydney, N.S. in 1922. He served with No. 6 District Depot C.A. of the Canadian Army. His duties were in Canada, Continental Europe, United Kingdom and the Central Mediterranean area. He received the 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, France/Germany Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal & Clasp. Hugh passed away in 2003.
