Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 67 DOREY, Clarence Wesley WWI Wesley was born in Clearland on 20 April 1891. Upon enlisting in the 64th Bn at Sussex, NB, on 3 September, 1915. Wesley was posted to the ‘fighting’ 26th Bn for service at the front and was wounded. After the war he became one of the charter members of Branch 49 Mahone Bay of the Royal Canadian Legion. He served overseas in the Canadian Army during WW II. It appears that he was returned to Canada in late 1943 and was medically discharged. He died of cancer in 1944. Submitted by Zone 13, The Royal Canadian Legion DOREY, Freeman WWI Freeman enlisted twice in the CEF (it is not clear why he was released after his first enlistment.) When he enlisted in the 112th Bn in Lunenburg on 18 December 1915 he declared that he had been born in Clearland on 21 February 1894. He was posted to the Halifax Composite Bn on 22 July 1916. He enlisted in the Canadian Engineers, on 20 November 1918, in Halifax. He did note that he had previous service in the Royal Canadian Engineers (regular force). He was posted to No.6 Engineer Depot in Halifax. Submitted by Zone 13, The Royal Canadian Legion DOREY, Norman WWI Norman enlisted in 1st Tunnelling Company of the Corps of Canadian Engineers on 28 August, 1915, in Sussex, NB. He declared that he had been born in Union Square on 1 March 1888; he was a railroad section man; and that his next of kin was his wife Ella Dorey of Auburn. Sapper Norman Dorey fought in the underground war in France and Belgium and, in 1918, was gassed three times in February and again in March. He was discharged in January, 1919, in Halifax.
