Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 89 FREEMAN, Howard Pearson WWI Howard was only 15 years old when enlisted in the 219th Bn on March 10, 1916, in Mahone Bay, and declaring that his mother, Mrs. Mary Freeman of Mahone Bay, was his next of kin. He lied about his age when he enlisted stating that he was born in 1899 (he was born in Mahone Bay on 14 June, 1900). Freeman arrived in the UK in June 1917 and was transferred to the 85th Bn, in France, on 8 November, 1918. He was discharged in June 1919. Submitted by Zone 13, The Royal Canadian Legion FREEMAN, Perry William WWII & Korea Perry was born in Yarmouth, NS in 1925. He served the Canadian Army with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders and the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps in England, Holland and Korea. Perry had been a member of Bear River Branch #022 and Clementsport Branch #122, The Royal Canadian Legion for forty-five years before he passed away in 2003. WWI John was born on April 3, 1889, in St George’s Bay, Newfoundland and was a lumberman living in Mahone Bay when he married Lilla Mosher of Blockhouse in 1911. He enlisted in the 1st NS Forestry Company of the Canadian Forestry Corps on 17 April, 1917, in Truro. Upon enlisting he noted that his next of kin was his wife and that he had previous service in the “Mahone Bay Howitzer Battery.” He arrived in the UK in July 1917 and was invalided home to Canada in October 1918 due to chronic rheumatism.
