He served the Canadian Army Active Force from 1946-1958. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. George passed away in 1992. He served as Captain with the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps at Camp Aldershot, 22nd Field Ambulance, and Aldershot Military Hospital. He received the Defense Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, and War Medal 1939-1945. William was reported missing on May 1, 1942 while aboard SS Nerissa, when the ship was torpedoed and sunk by enemy action by a U-552. Eighty-three crew and one hundred and twenty-four passengers were lost in May 1941. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on Panel 14 of Halifax Memorial.
