He enlisted in the Canadian Infantry Manitoba Regiment 85th Battalion in Europe. William was killed in action in the Battle of Vimy Ridge in France in 1917. He enlisted in the Army and served with the Nova Scotia Regiment, 25th Battalion in Europe during World War I.
