He had a 25-year career with the Royal Canadian Navy as part of the maintenance crew for the Sea King helicopters. His training took him to Scotland where he spent two years. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Long-Term Service Medal. Bruce and his wife, Audrey, had four children. They enjoyed traveling and seeing the western United States. He served in the Air Force during World War II with on a Lancaster Bomber in Canada and England as a Rear Gunner.
