Officer Cadet Anthony Daniel Bowie drowned in an obstacle course during basic training at Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario, on September 29, 1972. He was eighteen years old. He served from July 13, 1973 to April 10, 1998 at Canadian Forces Fleet School Esquimalt (CFFS(E)) HMCS Preserver from 1974 to 1976; (CFFS(E)) HMCS Saskatchewan from 1977 to 1979; CFB Esquimalt from 1979 to 1981; HMCS Provider from 1981 to 1984; (CFFS(E)) from 1985 to 1988; HMCS Yukon from 1988 to 1989; HMCS Saskatchewan from 1989 to 1990; (CFFS(E)) from 1990 to 1992; Canadian Forces Fleet School Halifax (CFFS(H)) from 1992 to 1994; HMCS Montreal from 1994 to 1996 (Commissioning Crew); Fleet Maintenance Facility Cape Scott (Halifax) from 1996 to 1997 and Fleet Maintenance Facility Cape Breton (Esquimalt) from 1997 to 1998. He participated at the following battles: Suez Crisis in 1974 (UN Support); Cyprus in 1974 (UN Support) and Former Republic of Yugoslavia Adriatic Sea in 1997 (NATO Support). He received the Conduct Decoration with Clasp, NATO Service Medal, Former Republic of Yugoslavia Service Medal and United Nations Peacekeeping Medal. Submitted Independently BOWIE, John Donald WWII Sapper John David Bowie, born in Nova Scotia, joined the army in 1943. He served with the 12th Fd Coy in Italy from January 1944 to February 28, 1945. He went to Italy after the Battle of Ortona as a replacement for casualties after the battle. He then served with the same unit in Holland from March 15 to July 15, 1945, and with the 1st Fd Coy from July to September 1945. His duties in Holland after the war included building bridges and clearing minefields. He was also the Coy shoemaker. John was discharged in 1946. He received the 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and War Medal 1939-1945. Submitted Independently
