Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 177 COLLICUTT, Lawrence Manning “Larry” WWII Larry was born in Lower Vaughans, Hants County, Nova Scotia, in 1922. He volunteered to serve in July 1942 and trained as an Air Gunner in Mont-Jolie, Quebec. Overseas, he served as a tail gunner in heavy bombers (primarily Lancasters) for 31 missions with Bomber Command, retiring from the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1945 with the rank of Flying Officer. After the war, Larry resumed his job as an electrician with Nova Scotia Light and Power, retiring in 1986. Larry received the 1939-1945 Star, Air Crew Europe Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, Overseas Service Bar, War Medal 1939-1945, Bomber Command Medal and Bar and the Queen’s Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal (1977). He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Dr. C. B. Lumsden MM Branch 74. Larry passed away in 2002. Submitted by Dr. C. B. Lumsden MM Branch #074, The Royal Canadian Legion CORKUM, Brenton SPECIAL DUTYAREA & PEACETIME Brenton was born in Pleasantville, Nova Scotia in 1937, the son of Frances and Gordon Simmons. At the age of seventeen, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, enjoying a 25-year career with posts to Comox, BC; Cold Lake, AB; Crediton, ON; Gimli, MB; Greenwood, NS and finally retiring from Shearwater, NS. He proudly served his country, participating in various NATO taskings ranging from France, Great Britain, Azores, Bermuda, Sweden, Norway and Greenland. Upon retirement, Brenton pursued a thirteen-year career as a Corrections Officer at the Centre Jail. Brenton and his wife Barbara made their home in Pleasantville where they raised three girls. He continued to serve his community as a long-time member of the Pleasantville Baptist Church and was a 51-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Bridgewater Branch 24. He took over several roles, for over thirty years as an active volunteer fire fighter with the Pleasantville Fire Department. Brenton passed away in 2020. He was posted at CFB Cornwallis, Ottawa, Borden, Petawawa and Kingston serving in Canada, Afghanistan, Croatia and Haiti. He received the UN Protection Force Medal, Canadian Peacekeeping Medal Afghanistan and Operational Service Medal. Richard passed away in 2021.
