Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 185 MacNEIL, Roderick “Rory” WWI Rory was born on March 19, 1892, the son of Francis X. S. and Christy MacNeil of Iona, Nova Scotia. He was employed as a Liveryman for the Railway prior to his enlistment in the Army in December 1915. His unit sailed on SS Empress of Britain arriving in Liverpool, England on July 25, 1916. Rory was wounded and taken off strength with a gunshot wound to the right forearm in March 1917 and pulled back on strength later that year. He returned to Canada in March 1919 and settled into civilian life. He married Mary MacNeil of Barra Glen and raised two children. Rory passed away on February 3, 1952 and is buried in Iona. Submitted Independently MASER, William Josef PEACETIME William was born in Hanover, Ontario on March 29, 1937. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1956 as an OSLMS and retired in 1992 as a CPO2 combat systems coordinator. He spent over half of his career on various ships from minesweepers to aircraft carriers serving on both Canadian costs. Two of the ships he served on were HMCS Bonaventure and HMCS Iroquois, of which he had very fond memories. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 165 in Mount Uniacke. William passed away on March 25, 2021. Submitted by Peace Branch #060, The Royal Canadian Legion MEISNER, Bernard Harvey WWII Bernard was born in Blackpoint, Nova Scotia in 1921. He served in the Army with the Royal Canadian Artillery during World War II. Bernard was killed in action in 1942 while serving in Hann’s Point, Lewisporte, Newfoundland. Submitted by Family
