He served in the Army as a peacekeeper in Germany. Donald passed away in 1993. Submitted by Family MEISNER, Harry Allan WWII Harry was born in Blackpoint, Nova Scotia in 1922. He enlisted in the Army and served in Newfoundland with the Royal Canadian Artillery in Newfoundland during World War II. Harry passed away in 1987. Submitted by Family MURPHY, Michael Peter WWII Peter was born in 1920, the son of Joseph F. and Mary (MacNeil) of MacKinnons Harbour, Nova Scotia. He first joined the Army on September 3, 1939 yet failed the eye test. He took the medical test again in 1941 and passed. He proceeded overseas in the fall of 1941 and served as Motorman, Bren Gun Carrier and truck driver with the Cape Breton Highlanders. He saw action in England, France, Italy, Belgium and Holland with the liberation of Delzeil, Holland as the final battle. After VE Day, Peter and a large number of Highlanders signed up for service with the U.S. Forces in the Pacific, but the war ended before they shipped out. Peter also had three brothers Hugh, Roddie, and Donald who served overseas during the war and all survived the conflict. Donald and Roddie both made a career in the Army until their respective retirements. Peter married Margaret Theresa MacNeil of lona and raised five children. Peter worked as Engineer on the Iona/Grand Narrows Ferry for over thirty years. Peter died on May 25, 2012 and is buried in Iona. Submitted Independently
