Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 189 NICHOLSON, Robert Tait SPECIAL DUTYAREA & PEACETIME Robert was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on March 16, 1934, the son of Robert Tait Nicholson and Elizabeth Margaret (Clarke). He was conscripted into the Royal Air Force and later joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, serving thirty years after immigrating to Canada. He received the RAF Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. He was married to his wife Winnifred Darlene (Brown) for 58 years and had two children, Caitlyn and Domhnull. He was a wonderful, smart, bright, compassionate man with a dry sense of humor to go along with his Scottish accent that never went away, even after sixty years in Canada. In his younger years, he was a member of MENSA. He was a big city boy growing up in Edinburgh and Glasgow, but surprisingly enough he was content on the deck in Pugwash for the last twenty years. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Peace Branch 60 for 37 years. Robert passed away on April 23, 2020. Submitted by Peace Branch #060, The Royal Canadian Legion O’REILLY, James Patrick WWII James was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia on November 25, 1918. He enlisted in the Army and served with the 8th Princess Louise Fusiliers (New Brunswick). He served in Italy, the Gustav Line and the Hitler Line. James was killed in action on May 27, 1944, in Monte Cassino, Italy. He received the Defence Medal, 1939-1945 Star, War Medal 19391945, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the Italy Star. Submitted Independently PIERCY, Wilfred WWII Wilfred was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia in 1923. He enlisted in the Army and served with the Cape Breton Highlanders in Canada and in Italy during World War II. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Sydney Branch 12. Wilfred passed away in 1983. Submitted Independently
