Trooper Lawrence Frederick Bellefontaine was killed in action on 10 April 1945. That day his squadron was supporting the 4th Canadian Armoured Brigade in the village of Sogel, Germany. A German counterattack was launched and for several hours, troops of the German Parachute Regiment Meuth, aided by German civilians, fought a grueling battle in the streets of the town. Trooper Lawrence Frederick Bellefontaine is buried in grave 9C14 of the Holten Canadian War Cemetery. Captain Burgess Malcom "Mac" Blackadar was born in 1909 in South Ohio, Yarmouth County. He married Katherine D Jost on 26 June 1933 in Halifax. Mac enlisted in the Halifax Rifles and was one of the original troop commanders of the 1CAPC Sqn. He died in Hebron in 1989. Trooper Allister Franklin Boutilier was born in Tantalon in 1921. He enlisted in the Halifax Rifles (23rd Canadian Army Tank Regiment) and served as a driver/mechanic in the Governor Generals Foot Guards before being transferred to 1CAPC Sqn in September of 1944. He died in Halifax in 2015. TrooperAlbert Charles Briand was born in L’Ardoise on 14 November 1924 and grew up in Glace Bay. Albert was posted to the Kangaroos on 18 September 1944. He mar-ried Theresa MacNeil in 1954, and they moved to Montreal in 1960. Albert worked for Otis Elevator for 40 years, retiring in 1988. He died in Ste. Anne's Hospital, Montreal, in 2012. Private Gordon Ernest Bugley was born in Cumberland County in 1914 and served in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps as a cook. He was attached to the 1st Canadian Armoured Personnel Carrier Squadron on 1 September 1944. Gordon died in 1973 in Drumheller, AB. Signalman V F Cameron of 1CACR Signals Troop from No. 4 Company, First Canadian Army Signals, Royal Canadian Corps of Signals. The identity of this soldier is inconclusive; however, it is probable that he was Vandyke Fraser Cameron of Shag Harbour, Shelburne County, who was born on 14 July 1920. Signalman Croft (no initials) of 1 CACR Signals Troop from No. 4 Company, First Canadian Army Signals, Royal Canadian Corps of Signals. No information available. Trooper R J Cullen. The identity of this soldier is inconclusive. Trooper R J Cullen was a Group “B” motor mechanic who was posted to the Kangaroos, from “E” Squadron of the 25th Canadian Armoured Delivery Regiment (The Elgin Regiment), on 2 September 1944.
