Trooper John ‘Ross’ Daniels was born at McPhee's Corner, Hants County, in 1924. He served with 3 Troop of ’A’ Squadron of the Kangaroos. Ross came home to Nova Scotia in July of 1946. He and his wife Marilyn raised five daughters. After a short career as a bus driver, he became an independent operator of heavy equipment. He was employed by DND, at Shearwater, for 30 years. Ross was active in the Dieppe Branch 90 RCL and was a member of the Canadian Kangaroo Regiment Association until his death in 2022. Signalman Dickerson (no initials) of 1CACR Signals Troop from No. 4 Company, First Canadian Army Signals, Royal Canadian Corps of Signals. He may have been from the Roslin area in Cumberland County. The identity of this soldier is inconclusive as only one record of a “Dickerson” individual could be found in the NS Vital Statistics website. Trooper Gerald Donald Ellis was born in 1924 at Sweets Corner, Hants County. He enlisted in Halifax in July 1943 and was discharged in March 1946. Gerald married Marion Olive Eddy in June 1947. He and Marion had four children, six grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Like many veterans, he never spoke of the war. George died in 1994 and is buried in the churchyard of St. Peter's Anglican Church, Eastern Passage. Signalman J E Dwindell of 1CACR Signals Troop from No. 4 Company, First Canadian Army Signals, Royal Canadian Corps of Signals. The identity of this soldier is inconclusive. He may have been John Edgar ‘Dwinell’ who was born in Halifax on 3 July 1924 and died in Ontario in 1995. That man grew up on Gottingen Street and went to England, during the war, via a troop ship that left from New York City. Trooper David ‘Dave’ Archibald Fraser was born on 12 April 1924 in Brule, Colchester County. He enlisted in the army at age 18 and was assigned to the Canadian Armoured Corps. In November 1944, shortly after arriving in France, he was transferred to the Kangaroos. Dave was severely wounded near the end of the war. In 1982, he retired from Stelco Canada in Hamilton, ON, after 33 years of service. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 58, Hamilton. Dave died on 3 July 2007 in Stoney Creek, ON, and is buried in the Brule Cemetery. J R Daniels G D Ellis
