Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 183 ATWELL, Alvin Ross PEACETIME Alvin was born in Halifax, NS on May 21, 1934. In 1955, he joined the Royal Canadian Artillery (14th Field Regiment), a Reserve Artillery Regiment. He completed his basic training inWindsor, NS where he was a member of the RCA Band and played the coronet. Alvin completed three years of service in Windsor and was released in 1958 as a Private (Trained). He received the Queen’s Jubilee Medal. Prior to his reserve time, Alvin was a cadet in No. 106 Windsor Academy Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Cadets. As Sgt. A. Atwell, he received the Proficiency in Service Calls (Bugle), a cup donated by the Royal Canadian Legion. Alvin has been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 24 years currently at Hants Co. Branch 9. He has been distributing cash boxes and wreaths. He resides in Ellershouse, NS with his wife Patsy. Submitted by Hants Co. Branch #009, The Royal Canadian Legion BARTER, George W. WWII George was from Antigonish, NS. He was killed in action at Sicily Landings in July 1943 with the West Nova Scotia Regiment. Submitted by Arras Branch #059, The Royal Canadian Legion BARTLETT, Stanley Lloyd WWII Stanley was born in Sydney Mines, NS in 1924. He served as a Sapper in the Army with the West Nova Scotia Regiment in the United Kingdom, Central Mediterranean area, Continental Europe and the North Atlantic area during World War II. For his service, he received the Italy Star, France and Germany Star, and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Armstrong Memorial Branch 19. Stanley passed away in 1996. Submitted Independently
