Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 193 EWING, Amos Milton “Bud” WWII Bud was born in Millville, Nova Scotia on August 17, 1925. In 1943, he joined the Royal CanadianAir Force. He was posted overseas in England in 1944 spending the next year attached to a Plastic Surgery Hospital – the Canadian Wing of Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead. He was so very proud to have danced with then-Princess Elizabeth during an organized social event for troop morale. When that hospital closed, he was posted to Topcliff, a Bomber Station that had been converted to a Repatriation Depot where the troops were brought in from all over Europe. Bud returned to Nova Scotia to live in Waterville. He played softball with the Waterville 7-Up team, was an Assistant Scout Master, and joined the Volunteer and District Volunteer Fire Department, earned his 70-year Service pin and retired after 71 years of active duty. Bud was employed by Canada Post as a Postmaster for thirty years where he also served many years on the Board of Directors and six years as President of the Canadian Postmasters Association (Maritime Branch). He was married to the love of his life for 71 years, Lillian, and had two children, Larry and Sharon. Bud was a life member of Ortona Branch #69 of The Royal Canadian Legion where he also held many positions and received many awards including the Legion’s highest award – the Palm Leaf. Bud looked forward to November every year when he could visit the local schools for Remembrance Day services. Bud was a co-founder of #467 Waterville & District Combined Division of the St. John Ambulance Brigade where he served for thirty years and volunteered over 5 000 hours, often with the family in tow. He transferred to the Auxiliary where he was promoted to Commander of the Order of St. John. Bud was on the Board of Directors for the Apple Capitol Museum in Berwick, a member of the Waterville Baptist Church, a member of the Air Cadet League and chairman of the sponsoring committee of #507 Lt. McLean Squadron. Bud was a true gentleman, happy and sharp to the very end. He loved his family, his faith, his friends of whom he had many. He taught us to always be thankful and kind so to honour his memory we should all try to do the same. Bud passed away in 2023. Submitted Independently
