Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 195 HANSFORD, Cecil Hambley WWI & WWII Cecil was born in February 1899 in Torbrook Mines, Annapolis County, NS. He served the Canadian Army during the First World War with the 40th Battalion in 1915. He served overseas from 1916 to 1918 with the 25th Nova Scotia Battalion, 5th Brigade, 2nd Division in the United Kingdom, France, and Belgium. He was wounded twice. He held the rank of Corporal upon his discharge. During the Second World War, he served from 1940 to 1945 in Aldershot, NS as Staff Sergeant. After the war, he was employed as a Gold Miner in Timmins, ON, also with the Nova Scotia Provincial Police, and he was a barber in Wolfville for 35 years. He retired in 1963, and passed away in 1964. Submitted by Lumsden Branch #074, The Royal Canadian Legion HAWBOLDT, Donald Roger WWII Donald was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1922. He enlisted in the Army with the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers and served overseas with the Signals duringWorldWar II. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 161 for many years. Donald passed away in 2005. Submitted by Family INNES, Christopher Sean “Chris” PEACETIME Chris was born in Sudbury, ON on May 4, 1954. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy on May 20, 1985 completing basic training at CFB Cornwallis, NS. Chris completed his Naval Radio Operator Trade Training at CFS Esquimalt (Fleet School). In 2007, the Naval Radio Operator and Naval Signals trades amalgamated becoming the Naval Communications Trade. He has held the position of Information Systems Security Officer. Chris served onboard HMCS ships Protecteur, Preserver, Iroquois and Saguenay. A posting to CFS Mill Cove was followed by postings to HMCS ships Fredericton and Montreal. He completed a tour at 12Wing Shearwater and then to HMCS Halifax. Chris’s final posting was to Joint Task Force Atlantic, Halifax, NS. In June 2012, Chris was released as Petty Officer 2nd Class completing 27 years. He received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal and the Canadian Forces Decoration (CD1). Chris has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for 31 years currently at Hants Co. Branch 9. He has served as Sergeant of Arms and Service Officer at Uniacke & District Branch #165.
