JACKSON, Harry Harvey RESERVES Harry was born in Halifax, NS in 1963. He joined the Royal Canadian Artillery (1st Field Regiment), a Primary Reserve Artillery Regiment, in 1980. He completed his basic training in Halifax, NS and his Artillery Training at 84th Independent Field Battery inYarmouth, NS. He completed three years of service in Halifax and was released in 1983 as Master Bombardier. Harry has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for 37 years currently at Hants Co. Branch 9 as Chairman of in House Sports and Veterans Banners Committee. He served as Executive-at-Large, 2nd Vice, 1st Vice and President of Branch 9. He served as Zone 8 Sports Officer and Zone 8 Commander. Harry was also a District D Commander. He is currently 2nd Vice President of Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command and Chairman of the Ritual/Awards/Protocol Committee. He sits on the Finance, Personnel and Convention Committees as well as Provincial Dart Coordinator and as a Representative for Track & Field for NS/Nunavut Command. He has received the (RCL) Branch Service Medal, (RCL) Branch Past Officer Medal, Zone Past Officer Medal, District Past Officer Medal and the Provincial Command Medal for service on the Executive Committee. He resides in Brooklyn, NS with his wife, Joann. Submitted by Hants Co. Branch #009, The Royal Canadian Legion JOHNSON, Roderick Thurston “Roddy”PEACETIME Roddy was born in Windsor Plains, Nova Scotia in 1956. In 1971, he joined the Royal CanadianArmy Reserve (West Nova Scotia Regiment). He completed his Basic Infantry Training and as Radioman at Camp Aldershot, NS. He trained in CFB Gagetown, Camp Petersville, NB, CFS Debert, Halifax Armoury and CFB Cornwallis. Roddy completed five years of service and was released in 1976 as Private. Roddy has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for thirteen years currently at Hants Co. Branch 9. He resides in Three Mile Plains, NS with his wife Shirley. Submitted by Hants Co. Branch #009, The Royal Canadian Legion JOUDREY, Chester Ernest WWII Chester was born in Lake George, Kings County, NS in 1921. In 1939, he joined the West Novas with his brothers, Harry and Alvin. He served in England and was there throughout the intense bombings and missile strikes by Germany. At wars end, he married Eileen Pointer and they returned to Nova Scotia. Together, they purchased a farm in Morristown, Kings Co. Their children’s names are Wendy, Linda, Alan, and Glenn. Chester farmed and had a successful bread delivery business in CAF Greenwood for 25 years. He was active in the community as President of Ortona Branch 69, a school trustee, church choir, and hosted West Nova get togethers at his farm for many years. His favourite past times were hunting, and fishing. He was a loving father and grandfather who also had a special place in his heart for animals, especially horses. He passed away in 1998.
