www.ns.legion.ca 199 Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion LAHEY, Charles Walter “Charlie”AFGHANISTAN Charlie was born in Sydney, NS on August 23, 1956. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1974 completing his Basic Training at CFB Cornwallis, NS. He began his career in Naval Electronics but transferred to Hull Technician completing his training at Canadian Forces Fleet School in Halifax. He held positions as Shop Supervisor and Helo Crash Rescue Lead. Other qualifications were: Safety Officer, Leadership Instructor, First Aid Instructor, Medium Logistics Vehicle Wheeled Driver, Tracked Light Armoured Vehicle Driver and Level 4 Weapons (grenades, etc.). Charlie served onboard HMCS Margaree, Preserver, Protector, Moncton, Shawinigan, Kingston, Charlottetown, Montreal, and Iroquois. He also had a posting to CFS Mill Cove. He had Reserve Service from May 1996 to August 2005. On August 23, 2016, Charlie retired as Master Seaman completing a total of forty years. He received the South-West Asia Service Medal, General Campaign Star-South-West Asia, Operational Service Medal Humanitas, Special Service Medal, 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada Medal and the CD2 (Canadian Forces Decoration). Charlie has been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for thirteen years currently Sergeant-at-Arms at Hants Co. Branch 9. He has received the Past Officer, Sgt-At-Arms and Executive Medals. He is Chairman of the Bursaries and National Youth Remembrance Contest Committees as well as serving on additional committees. Submitted by Hants Co. Branch #009, The Royal Canadian Legion MacISAAC, Duncan Joseph PEACETIME Duncan was born in Glace Bay, NS on December 26, 1953. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces on October 4, 1974 and completed basic training at CFB Chilliwack, BC. He was transferred to CFB Moose Jaw, SK and completed his trade training as a pilot. In 1977, he was posted to 433 Squadron, CFB Shearwater flying Sea King helicopters. He served deployments on HMCS Huron, Saguenay, and Annapolis. A posting to 406 Squadron followed, training other Sea King pilots. After three years there, he was posted to CFB Trenton, at Training Systems Headquarters. Duncan was in charge of the Officer Training courses at CFB Chilliwack and the summer training courses for the ROTP Program. In 1987, he was posted to MR880 Squadron in CFB Summerside flying and instructing on the CP-121 Tracker aircraft. Duncan was then posted to Corner Brook, NL as a Recruiting Officer. In 1994, he was posted to MP405 Squadron, CFB Greenwood, flying the CP-140 Aurora. In December 2009, Duncan retired as Captain, from the Regular Forces, CFB Greenwood Operations completing 27 years. He continued working in Wing Ops for another eight years as a Reservist, a total of 35 years. He received the following medals: Canadian Forces Decoration (CD2) and Queen’s Jubilee. Duncan has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion and Hants Co. Branch 9 for fourteen years. He has served as Service Officer. Submitted by Hants Co. Branch #009, The Royal Canadian Legion
