Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 205 SEGARD, François SPECIAL DUTYAREA & PEACETIME François was born in Montreal, Quebec in 1955. He is a decorated Canadian Army Officer with nearly four decades of distinguished service, including 35 years in the Regular Forces and four as a Reservist Commanding Officer. He served with 5e Régiment d’artillerie légère du Canada, SQFT, Artillery Schol (Gagetown and France) and 62 Field Regiment. Twice deployed to Afghanistan in senior operational roles, he served as Chief Joint Fires for Regional Command South, managing over 210 fire systems without collateral damage – an achievement recognized as exemplary. He was also a key liaison officer during operations in Iraq and Kuwait supporting Coalition and NATO missions. Recognized for exceptional leadership, he commanded 62 Field Regiment and received commendations for directing training, operations, and multinational coordination. Honours include selection as Directing Staff at prestigious institutions such as the Kofi Annan Peacekeeping Centre (Ghana), École de Guerre (France) and NATO exercises in Kenya. As Battery commander and later J1/J3 Staff at multiple headquarters, he constantly delivered results in complex environments. Fluent in French and English, he has represented Canada in Bosnia, Cyprus, and throughout the Middle East and Africa. He is proud to have contributed to international peace and security, mentoring future leaders and shaping mission success. François is a ten-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Chester Branch 44 in Nova Scotia. Submitted Independently SHEEHY, Vernon Phillip PEACETIME Vernon was born in Windsor, NS on August 19, 1949. He joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police on November 4, 1970 completing his Cadet Training Program, at RCMPAcademy in Regina, SK. Vernon was posted to many locations in New Brunswick: Florenceville, Plaster Rock, Fredericton, St. Stephens, St. Andrews, Oromocto, Hampton and Chipman. He continued his service in Nova Scotia: Cole Harbour, Halifax Airport and Tantallon. On January 5, 1998, Vernon retired as Constable completing 27 years. He received the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Long Service Medal with Bronze Bar. Vernon was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for 49 years recently at Hants Co. Branch 9. He served as Sergeant-at-Arms. Vernon, age 75 of Mount Denson, passed away on September 30, 2024. He is survived by his wife, Teresa (MacDonald) Sheehy. Submitted by Hants Co.
