Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 209 WIND, Johannes “John” PEACETIME John was born in Dinxperlo, Netherlands on July 22, 1943. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1962 completing Basic Training at CFB Cornwallis, NS. He completed his trade training as a Signalman at CFB Cornwallis and at CFB Halifax. John was posted to HMCS Outremont, Yukon, Cape Scott, Kootenay, Preserver, Algonquin, Huron and Protector. He also had postings to CFB Halifax, CFS Mill Cove, and CFB Shearwater. On July 10, 1987, John retired as Petty Officer First Class (PO1). He joined the Royal Canadian Navy Reserve Division, HMCS Scotian for an additional two years completing a total of 27 years. He received the Canadian Forces Decoration (CD1). John has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for 52 years and currently at Hants Co. Branch 9. He has received the RCL 50-year Long Service Medal. Submitted by Hants Co. Branch #009, The Royal Canadian Legion WRIGHT, Maurice WWI Maurice, brother of Sydney, enlisted in the Engineers in the summer of 1915 and sailed for England. Owing to ill health, he was prevented from getting to the front and spent that winter in a hospital in England then was invalided home in the spring of 1916. He never fully recovered his health and his condition gradually grew worse until he passed away in November 1918. Submitted by Middleton Branch #001, The Royal Canadian Legion WRIGHT, Sydney WWI Sydney enlisted at age 17 in the 40th Battalion. Volunteers were later called to fill the ranks of the famous 25th Battalion in France. Sydney was the first to step forward and ten months later, he was killed in action.
